History/Origin:
Iaido began as an off shoot of Kenjutsu. The ideology behind Iaido was to defend against a surprise attack and kill an attacker with a single swipe of the sword and from multi positions. Iaido is all about the initial draw and cut of the sword from the seating position, half seated position, kneeling position, and standing. Because of the philosophy of one cut one kill; Iaido techniques or forms are short. Each form consists of Nukitsuke (drawing of the sword), Kirioroshi (cutting) and Noto (returning the blade to the scabbard).
